Drosophila suzukii Trap
The Drosinal trap is used for monitoring flights of the spotted-wing drosophila Drosophila suzukii, a serious pest of soft fruit plantations.
Description
Trap for catching the spotted-wing drosophila Drosophila suzukii.
• very strong attraction to D.suzukii
• partial selectivity – does not catch large insects
• sturdy trap construction
• contains no pesticides or pheromones
The Drosinal trap is intended for monitoring flights of the spotted-wing drosophila – Drosophila suzukii in areas where it may occur. It is used in soft fruit plantations where the pest poses a very serious threat. The trap can also be used for mass trapping of flies as a method of population control.
The attractant liquid is a mixture of various food ingredients. It contains no pesticides or pheromones. It exhibits particularly strong attraction properties for the spotted-wing drosophila. A characteristic feature of the liquid is its very low surface tension. As a result, flies immediately drown upon contact with the liquid, having no chance to escape. The appropriate shape and colouring of the trap enhance its usability and fly attraction properties. The mesh placed in the inlet holes ensures partial selectivity of the trap – larger insects than Drosophila suzukii are not caught. The trap has a very sturdy construction. It can be used for several seasons. The trap and liquid are sold separately.
Why DROSINAL® Drosophila suzukii is a very serious pest occurring in many regions of the world, including Europe. Its expansion poses an increasing and serious threat to soft fruit production. Pest control is very difficult. It usually requires comprehensive action. Proper pest monitoring plays an important, often essential role here, for which the Drosinal® trap is perfectly suited.
