Magnesium sulfate
Magnesium Sulfate K+S is a fast-acting magnesium-sulphur fertiliser for foliar fertilisation. Its components are fully water-soluble and are in the form of sulphates (MgSO4 x 7 H2O, also known as Epsom salt). It dissolves in water immediately and completely, which is why it is used in plant sprays as a foliar fertiliser or incorporated into irrigation systems (fertigation). It complements soil fertilisation of all crops during periods of nutrient deficiency.
Magnesium Sulfate K+S Composition:
- 16 % MgO magnesium oxide soluble in water
- 32.5 % SO3 sulphur trioxide soluble in water
Magnesium Sulfate K+S Application:
- Used in two critical phases: during stem elongation and grain formation and ripening.
- For prolonged maintenance of photosynthesis (green flag leaf), a high level of magnesium and sulphur is necessary. Cruciferous plants are most sensitive to magnesium and sulphur deficiencies.
- Optimises nitrogen metabolism, improving the quality of sugar beet. At the tuber initiation and formation stage – parallel to flowering – potatoes have maximum demand for magnesium and sulphur.
- Foliar fertilisation stabilises photosynthesis, preventing deficiencies during tuber formation.
- In hop cultivation, Magnesium Sulfate K+S is applied just before or during flowering together with plant protection products. A repeat application occurs during the formation of umbels (3-4 weeks after flowering) due to maximum demand for magnesium and sulphur.
- Coniferous trees (e.g. fir, spruce) often show needle discoloration indicating magnesium deficiency, changing from light green through yellow to brown. Multiple applications of Magnesium Sulfate K+S effectively counteract this.
Basically, it can be used in all crops.
