Description

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OPOKA MAIZE VARIETY:

The Opoka variety is a stable three-way cross hybrid (TC) with FAO 240, primarily intended for the production of high-energy silage. Opoka provides a foundation of yield reliability, featuring documented good digestibility of whole-plant silage (a trait confirmed by COBORU studies). Its agronomic profile indicates high stress tolerance, which is crucial for harvest stability. Very long leaf and stalk greenness (stay green) is a distinguishing feature that allows for an extended and flexible harvest window while maintaining optimal dry matter content. In trials, Opoka consistently outperformed standards, ensuring a high yield of nutrient units per hectare (on average 110 units above the standard).

Advantages of choosing Opoka maize seeds:

- High-energy yield: Guaranteed high yield of nutrient units (110 units above the standard) and high-energy silage.

- Excellent silage digestibility: Confirmed good digestibility of whole plants (COBORU studies).

- Long stay green: Allows for an extended harvest period while maintaining proper dry matter content and feed quality.

- Yield stability: High tolerance to stress conditions (drought, cold and poor soils) ensures yield stability, confirmed during the adverse years 2004–2005.

- Disease tolerance: High resistance to fusarium and lodging.

OPOKA PARAMETERS AND USE:

FAO: 240 (mid-early variety).

Grain type: semi flint semi dent (intermediate).

Hybrid type: three-way cross (TC).

Intended use: silage (high-energy), biogas.

Plant height: tall.

AGRONOMY AND CULTIVATION RECOMMENDATIONS:

Yield Results and Agronomic Profile:

Opoka achieved in registration trials:

Fresh mass yield: 103.7% of the standard.

Total dry matter yield: 1.1% higher than the standard.

The variety features good initial vigour and high tolerance to drought, cold and poor soils. Long stay green and high fusarium tolerance increase harvest security and flexibility.

Sowing rate and soil requirements:

Opoka is tolerant of cold and poor soils, which broadens its cultivation possibilities. Due to the large plant mass, the recommended plant density (plants per hectare at harvest) is aimed at maximising silage yield:
