Description
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LEGION MAIZE VARIETY:
Legion is a mid-late three-way cross hybrid (TC) with FAO 260–270, specialised in producing high-energy silage and biogas. This variety combines a very high yield potential (confirmed in trials) with outstanding nutritional quality. Legion stands out with excellent fibre digestibility (DINAG 53.8% – classified as very high digestibility) and whole plant digestibility at 73%. Such a yield structure guarantees high feed value and energy efficiency, making it excellent for biogas use. Additionally, Legion shows very good early plant vigour after emergence and good adaptation to variable soil and environmental conditions, increasing crop security.
Advantages of choosing LEGION maize seeds:
- Outstanding digestibility: Excellent fibre digestibility (DINAG 53.8%) and high whole plant digestibility (73%), key for cattle nutrition and biogas production.
- High yield potential: Very high total dry matter yield and good yield structure, confirmed in registration and post-registration studies.
- Ideal for biogas: Excellent for use in biogas plants due to high energy value.
- Adaptation and stability: Good adaptation to variable soil and environmental conditions and high stress tolerance.
- Initial vigour: Very good early vigour of young plants after emergence, facilitating sowing in cooler soils.

AGRONOMY AND CULTIVATION RECOMMENDATIONS:
Yield Results and Agronomic Profile:
Legion combines a solid agronomic profile typical of a TC hybrid (good stay green, drought tolerance, lodging and fusarium tolerance) with excellent quality parameters. The high nutritional value of the total dry matter yield allows efficient use of biomass in animal feeding and energy production. Very good initial vigour supports early plant development in diverse soil conditions.
Sowing rate and soil requirements:
Thanks to good adaptation to variable conditions, Legion is recommended for cultivation on a wide range of sites. The recommended plant density (plants per hectare at harvest) varies depending on soil potential:
| Usage | Poor Sites [plants/ha] | Good Sites [plants/ha] |
|---|---|---|
| Silage | 80,000 – 85,000 | 90,000 – 95,000 |
