Conifer fertilisation calendar with Twój Ogród fertiliser:

Conifer cultivation and care conditions:

All conifers are sensitive to magnesium deficiency, which is a fundamental component of chlorophyll. Its lack causes disturbances in chlorophyll synthesis and reduced photosynthesis, resulting in poorer plant growth, loss of green needle colour, and yellowing. Severe magnesium deficiency causes drying. Twój Ogród fertiliser against needle browning ensures beautiful green needle colour and high photosynthetic activity, resulting in strong, healthy, and well-growing plants.

Conifers are among the most popular plants in our gardens, gaining popularity due to their high resistance to adverse weather conditions. They provide beautiful greenery all year round.

For good growth and colouring, conifers should be planted in acidic soils. The best growing medium for conifers is humus-rich loamy-sandy soil. The appropriate pH range is between 4.8 and 5.8.

Proper care and regular fertilisation of conifers should be done using compound mineral fertilisers containing micro and macronutrients. Conifers require fertilisation throughout the growing season. To ensure optimal effect, different types of fertilisers should be applied alternately. Various types and methods of fertilising conifers (top dressing, foliar fertilisation) change with the seasons.

Young plants should be watered less frequently but thoroughly. Recommended soil wetting depth is 10-15 cm, preferably in the evening. In summer during sunny weather, regular watering is necessary, on average every ten days. Coniferous trees like sprinkling, which increases air humidity. Older plants, due to well-developed root systems, do not require frequent watering.

In autumn (if dry), remember to water plants. Well-watered plants better withstand harsh winter conditions. Evergreen plants often dry out in winter and early spring due to lack of water.

Mulching the soil positively affects the growth and overall condition of conifers. Bark is most commonly used, which limits weed growth and retains soil moisture. As mulch decomposes, it enriches the soil with humus and improves its structure. Composting the bark before mulching is recommended.

Conifers do not require pruning; only damaged, frostbitten, dried shoots should be removed, or to improve light penetration if plants are too densely planted and heavily shaded. Conifers are often pruned to limit their size or to shape them as desired. The best conifers for shaping are: yews, firs, cypresses, junipers, larches, spruces, and arborvitae. Yew can be pruned and shaped at any age. Pruning is best done in spring.

Selected conifer species are also suitable for planting in pots on balconies and terraces.

  • Use fertiliser sustainably; fertilisation should be based on plant needs and growing medium fertility.
  • Prevent fertiliser from reaching surfaces not intended for fertilisation.
