Recommended period for establishing a lawn with Intensive Turfing Twój Ogród grass seeds:
Establishing a lawn from the Intensive Turfing Twój Ogród seed mixture:
By following the described guidelines, you will ensure full success and satisfaction with your lawn.
1. Clear the area of stones, leaves, twigs, plants and any debris. The soil pH for grasses should be between 5.5 and 7.0. If the soil is acidic, apply "Twój ogród" granular lime to raise the soil pH.
IMPORTANT! If you plan to install underground irrigation, electrical systems or drainage, do this at this stage.
2. Dig the soil to spade depth, turning it over thoroughly; if the soil is poor, spread a layer of compost before digging. Level and shape the area, which should be flat; a 1-3% slope is acceptable to facilitate surface water runoff.
IMPORTANT! Finish the lawn edges now, as this is the easiest time to set them in the ground.
3. Level the area with a rake. The seedbed should be free of hollows or bumps that would hinder later mowing. Firm the soil by repeatedly treading or rolling the surface. Remove visible weeds.
IMPORTANT! If you plan to sow grass earlier than the sowing day, eliminate weeds chemically using the "TWÓJ ogród" brand Koniczynka preparation.
4. Just before sowing, lightly loosen the growing medium with a rake, avoiding unevenness. This creates better conditions for seed sowing. Sow the grass seeds on the prepared growing medium (mix the seeds to obtain a uniform mixture), preferably in calm weather. After sowing, cover the seeds with a 1 cm layer of native soil or the ready-to-use universal growing medium "TWÓJ ogród" RUP! Firm or roll the covered seeds.
IMPORTANT! Specialist mixtures designed for specific areas and intended use are best.
5. Water the freshly sown grass seeds carefully to avoid washing them away. Initially, water the area lightly several times a day, avoiding prolonged waterlogging.
IMPORTANT! Maintain moisture in the upper layer of the growing medium at all times. The species in the mix have varying germination times from 7 to 28 days.
6. Perform the first mowing when the blades reach 8-12 cm in height. Mow down to 5-6 cm.
IMPORTANT! Mow gently the first times with sharp mower blades to avoid pulling out young, weakly rooted plants.
Lawn mowing depending on air temperature:
- when the temperature is up to 25°C, mow the lawn to 4 cm height,
- when the temperature is between 25-30°C, mow the lawn to 6 cm height,
- when the temperature exceeds 30°C, do not mow the lawn.
Conditions affecting grass colour:
The lawn should be established on soil with a pH of 5.5-6.5. Too low a pH below 5.5 hinders grass nutrient uptake, tillering and root system development, which affects the appearance and condition of the turf. If the soil is too acidic, the lawn loses its intense colour, begins to yellow, grows poorly and becomes sparse.
Fertilisation affects grass colour. Regular feeding with appropriate fertiliser promotes intense colouring. Water quality, source and biochemical composition also have an impact.
