Berny - winter oilseed rape seeds - high-yielding line variety

Advantages of Berny winter oilseed rape seeds:

  • should be sown on sites rich in nutrients
  • strong autumn vigour
  • rapid spring start
  • fast development of the root system
  • high yields even on weaker and less fertile sites
  • medium height
  • large number of side shoots
  • lower biomass
  • less prone to lodging
  • easier to harvest
  • high tolerance to periodic water shortages
  • can be recommended if there is a need to delay the sowing date by a few days

Berny winter oilseed rape seeds are one of the latest results of Austrian breeding efforts, which focus exclusively on line varieties, allowing the introduction of increasingly high-yielding varieties in this category.

To fully realise their potential, Berny winter oilseed rape seeds should be sown on sites rich in nutrients, but their growth profile, strong autumn vigour and rapid spring start combined with fast root system development enable them to achieve high yields even on weaker and less fertile sites.

Plants from the Berny winter oilseed rape variety reach medium height, with a growth habit characterised by a favourable correlation between a large number of side shoots and the number of pods. Due to lower biomass, they are also less prone to lodging and thus easier to harvest.

Berny winter oilseed rape with this growth habit also shows high tolerance to periodic water shortages, although prolonged drought will reduce its potential, as with any other variety.

Due to the high autumn growth rate typical for a line variety, it can be recommended if there is a need to delay the sowing date by a few days compared to the optimal date in the region.

Seed treatments available from Agrosimex:

Berny winter oilseed rape seeds are always treated with the fungicide seed treatment Scenic Gold (active substances fluopicolide, fluoxastrobin), which protects against pathogens such as seedling damping-off (caused by fungi Phoma lingam, Alternaria spp.), dry rot of crucifers, blackleg, and downy mildew of crucifers.

You can also purchase Berny winter oilseed rape seeds additionally treated with the insecticide seed treatment Buteo Start (active substance flupyradifurone), which protects against pests such as cabbage root fly, oilseed rape flea beetle, and ground flea beetles.

When should Berny oilseed rape seeds be sown?

Berny winter oilseed rape seeds can be sown slightly earlier than usual. In this case, we recommend using 55 seeds per m2. For the optimal date, we recommend 55-60 seeds per m2. If sowing is slightly delayed, increase the sowing rate to 60-70 seeds per m2.

What disease resistance do Berny winter oilseed rape seeds show?

Berny winter oilseed rape seeds have moderate resistance to dry rot of crucifers. They show high resistance to basal stem diseases and sclerotinia stem rot. They have moderate resistance to blackleg.

Additionally, Berny winter oilseed rape seeds have very high resistance to lodging. Resistance to pod shattering is high.

How does Berny winter oilseed rape yield compare to other varieties?
