Description
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SM JANOSIK MAIZE VARIETY:
SM Janosik is an early, dual-purpose maize hybrid with FAO 230-240, which has demonstrated its excellent yield potential in registration trials. This variety combines high biomass yield with outstanding silage quality – it is characterised by a high proportion of cobs in the harvested mass and excellent digestibility. The variety is extremely versatile and tolerant. It has very strong initial vigour, and its ability to be grown on poor soil sites as well as high tolerance to periodic water shortages make it a reliable choice, minimising cultivation risk under variable climatic and soil conditions.
Advantages of choosing SM Janosik maize seeds:
- Proven yield potential: Dry matter yield reaching 109–112% of the standard in 2021–2022 (registration trials).
- Outstanding feed quality: Excellent silage digestibility due to the high proportion of cobs in the harvested mass.
- Stress resistance: Tolerance to periodic water shortages and the ability to be effectively grown on poor soil sites.
- Early and strong start: Very high initial vigour ensures rapid emergence and development.
- Versatility of use: Ideal for silage production, as well as grain and CCM.
SM JANOSIK PARAMETERS AND PURPOSE:
FAO: 230–240 (early variety).
Usage purpose: silage, grain, CCM.
Silage properties: high dry matter yield of cobs, excellent digestibility.
AGRONOMIC PRACTICES AND CULTIVATION RECOMMENDATIONS:
Yield and agronomic profile:
SM Janosik is a hybrid whose performance is strongly confirmed by data from registration trials:
Dry matter yield (2022): 18.9 t/ha (112% of standard).
Fresh mass yield (2021): 63.3 t/ha (106% of standard).
Dry matter yield of cobs (2021): 8.75 t/ha (108% of standard).
Very high initial vigour promotes rapid development. The variety is tolerant to water shortages, and the high proportion of cobs in the green mass increases the energy value and digestibility of the silage.
Sowing rate and soil requirements:
SM Janosik can be grown on poorer soil sites, where its tolerance to water stress allows for satisfactory results. The recommended plant density (plants per hectare at harvest) varies depending on the intended use:
| Usage | Poor Sites [plants/ha] | Good Sites [plants/ha] |
|---|---|---|
| Grain and CCM | 80,000 | 85,000 |
| Silage | 85,000 | 95,000 |
