Description
FEATURES OF THE WINTER BARLEY SANDRA VARIETY:
Winter barley Sandra is a class of its own – consistently the most popular two-row variety in Poland. Its phenomenal success is based on a unique yield-building model. Early heading guarantees a significantly longer grain filling period, resulting in an exceptionally high Thousand Grain Weight (TGW) of about 60 g. In renowned BSA trials in Germany, it received an excellent yield rating (8/9), confirming its powerful production potential. Despite such intensive yielding, plants reach a safe height of about 90 cm. Additionally, they exhibit high lodging resistance, which facilitates crop management and hassle-free harvesting.
This variety also stands out for its outstanding agronomic flexibility. Thanks to very high tillering ability and lower site requirements, Sandra successfully yields on all soil types, including lighter and more permeable soils. It copes excellently with periodic droughts. Moreover, its strong health profile effectively protects the crop against diseases including powdery mildew, to which the variety has very high resistance.
Advantages of choosing WINTER BARLEY SANDRA:
- Powerful yield potential: Extended grain filling time ensures a record-high TGW of around 60 g.
- Tolerance to poorer soils: The variety shows lower site requirements. It tolerates periodic droughts well on permeable soils.
- Outstanding crop stiffness: Plants reaching about 90 cm in height have high lodging resistance. This protects the yield from losses and speeds up harvesting.
- Excellent health status: Shows very high resistance to powdery mildew. Additionally, it has high resistance to sulphur leaf blotch and rhynchosporium.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - WINTER BARLEY SANDRA:
What causes the large grain weight (TGW) in the Sandra variety?
The key to large grain is the specific growth cycle of this variety. Sandra is characterised by a very early heading date, which naturally extends the weather window dedicated to grain filling. As a result, TGW consistently reaches about 60 g.
Is this barley suitable for poorer, permeable soils?
Definitely yes. Sandra barley stands out with its lower site requirements. This variety tolerates periodic water shortages well and tillers very well, making it a highly safe choice for lighter and easily permeable soils.
