Description
FEATURES OF THE WINTER TRITICALE BELCANTO VARIETY:
Winter triticale Belcanto is a mid-early variety with an exceptional genetic potential, appreciated not only in Poland but also in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Austria. Its most important advantage is its outstanding resistance to key fungal diseases of cereals, including especially yellow rust, septoria leaf blotch, rhynchosporium, and snow mould. According to independent German studies, the health profile of this variety ensures the highest profitability of cultivation, allowing for safe reduction of costly fungicide treatments without losses in yield structure.
Another reason why farmers choose Belcanto so willingly is its remarkable flexibility and stability under stressful conditions. This variety has very good winter hardiness rated at 5.5 (on a 9° scale), tolerates harsh winters well, and features medium straw length with high lodging resistance. Additionally, it produces beautiful, large grains with a thousand grain weight reaching 45 grams. Excellent density and uniformity parameters along with very high protein content (approx. 11%) make the yield a highly desirable commodity on the grain market.
Advantages of choosing WINTER TRITICALE BELCANTO:
- Record crop health: Outstanding resistance to yellow rust (6.0) and septoria leaf blotch (6.0) as well as the stem base disease complex allows for significant reduction in chemical crop protection costs.
- Yield security: Very good winter hardiness (5.5), high lodging resistance, and exceptional resistance to grain sprouting protect the investment against weather anomalies.
- Excellent commercial grain quality: Large, dense grain with high protein content (approx. 11%) and thousand grain weight (TGW approx. 45 g) translates into better prices at the grain purchase point.
- High agrotechnical flexibility: Excellent adaptation to various sites (ideal for soils of classes IVa and IVb) and great tillering ability facilitate planning of sowing structure on any farm.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - WINTER TRITICALE BELCANTO:
On which sites is Belcanto triticale best sown?
Despite its wide adaptive capacity and tolerance to various soil conditions, winter triticale Belcanto reveals its highest, record yield potential on medium quality soils classified as bonitation classes IVa and IVb.
What are the recommended sowing rates for this variety?
Thanks to its outstanding tillering ability, the recommended sowing rate under optimal sowing timing and good cultivation conditions is from 300 to 340 germinating grains per square metre. In weight terms, this corresponds to a seeding rate of about 140 to 160 kg of seed per hectare.
Does this variety allow savings on fungicides?
Yes. German studies confirm that Belcanto features the highest profitability of cultivation with limited fungicide use. This results from very strong and durable genetic resistance to yellow rust, septoria leaf blotch, rhynchosporium, and snow mould (high ratings of 5 and 6 on a 9° scale).
