Description
FEATURES OF THE WINTER RYE HELLTOP VARIETY:
Winter rye Helltop is an innovative hybrid variety bred by Nordic Seed. Its greatest phenomenon is the unique stand architecture. Although the plants are very tall, reaching an average of about 152 cm, the variety is characterised by very high lodging resistance. This is due to the fact that Helltop has a very thick stem with a significantly higher number of vascular bundles, and its cell walls are heavily lined with lignin, creating a natural protective armour against lodging caused by wind and rain. Additionally, this rye has very low site requirements, making it a profitable choice even on the poorest soils.
The variety outperforms the competition in quality and health parameters. It produces very light grain, which gives the flour a superb, attractive appearance. The optimal falling number, high protein content, and very good flour production efficiency (5 to 10% better compared to other varieties) meet the expectations of the most demanding bakers. From the farmer's perspective, the key factor is also the robust health of the stand. Helltop shows very high resistance to powdery mildew, brown rust, and ergot. This guarantees safe yields with the highest microbiological purity.
Advantages of choosing Winter Rye HELLTOP:
- Highest lodging resistance: Very thick, lignin-lined stem provides incredible stand stability. Plants reach about 152 cm in height. They have very high lodging resistance.
- Outstanding milling quality: Light grain with an optimal falling number and high protein content increases flour yield by 5-10%. Thousand Grain Weight (TGW) is 33 g.
- Robust health: Shows very high resistance to powdery mildew and brown rust. Resistance to ergot is also classified as very high.
- Tolerance to poor soils: This is a hybrid variety. It stands out for having very low site requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - WINTER RYE HELLTOP:
Why does Helltop not lodge despite the tall stand height?
The secret lies in the plant's physiology. Although it reaches about 152 cm in height, it develops a very thick stem with a higher number of vascular bundles. Additionally, its cell walls are heavily lined with lignin, which guarantees exceptional rigidity. The lodging resistance assessed by experts is very high.
What benefits does the grain of this variety bring to milling?
This variety produces very light seeds, from which flour with an exceptionally attractive appearance is made. The grain is characterised by an optimal falling number and high protein content, which together allow for a 5-10% better flour production yield compared to other rye varieties.
