Biocontrol T34 - ecological fungicide
Advantages of Biocontrol T34:
- Naturally protects crops against Fusarium spp. and Pythium spp. pathogens, and thus against the most important plant diseases,
- Functions as both a growth stimulator and a biofungicide,
- Rapidly colonises the rhizosphere immediately after application, protecting the entire root system,
- Wide application - suitable for horticultural, orchard, vegetable crops and nurseries,
- Highly concentrated,
- Guarantees healthy, high-quality yields,
- Increased yield,
- Especially recommended for organic farming,
- Leaves no residues,
- No resistance development by the active substance of the product.
Biocontrol T34 is a microbiological fungicide. It is available as a wettable powder (WP). The active substance is spores of the fungus Trichoderma asperellum strain T34, which is a natural, safe, sustainable and versatile biological fungicide. The product is intended for preventive use to protect cultivated plants against Fusarium spp. and Pythium spp. pathogens due to its ability to colonise the growing medium and root zone of plants. Biocontrol T34 reduces the occurrence of Fusarium spp. and Pythium spp. pathogens by competing for space in the root zone and nutrients, and can also parasitise plant pathogenic fungi.
Biocontrol T34 is an innovative product developed over 15 years by Biocontrol Technologies, S.L., a spin-off company from the University of Barcelona. It is registered as a biological plant protection product in over 20 countries. Its effectiveness has been confirmed against more than 30 pathogens.
The product is intended for use by professional users with greenhouse sprayers or handheld sprayers, irrigation systems, and also by dipping roots in the product solution.
Natural fungicide Biocontrol T34 - active substance content:
- Trichoderma asperellum strain T34 (substance from the group of biological fungicides) 120 g/kg (12%).
T34 was isolated from compost as a natural agent suppressing (inhibiting growth of) the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum. The compost originated from a mixture of municipal waste, sewage sludge and plant residues from garden maintenance. Safety studies were conducted to verify the product.
Studies:
- Ecotoxicological: algae, aquatic plants, plankton, rainbow trout, quail, earthworms, honey bees, Predatori acari, hymenoptera,
- Toxicological: rats/guinea pigs: inhalation, dermatological tests, eye tests, intraperitoneal, allergy tests.
Mode of action of Biocontrol T34:
Action on pathogens:
- Forms a physical barrier.
- Competes for space and nutrients. It grows rapidly, which hinders pathogen survival.
- Colonises and parasitises several pathogen species directly. Controls them without causing resistance development.
- Produces active substances limiting pathogen growth and development.
Action on the plant:
- Activates induced systemic resistance (ISR) mechanisms in plants (acts similarly to vaccines), enhancing plant defence mechanisms - plant defence is faster and more effective.
- Accelerates root growth, thereby increasing nutrient uptake.
- Accelerates plant growth and biomass accumulation.
Fungal diseases controlled by Biocontrol T34:
- Fusarium wilt of carnations (reduces occurrence),
- Seedling damping-off and root rot caused by Pythium sp. (reduces occurrence).
Small-scale use:
- Seedling and transplant damping-off caused by Fusarium spp., Pythium spp.,

Biocontrol T34 - dosage:
Example dosages are provided in the Dosage section. Dosages refer to a row spacing of 50cm and sowing/transplanting depth of 2.5cm (in growing medium) or 5cm (in soil), giving a maximum dose of 500g formulated product/ha.
Ecological fungicide Biocontrol T34 - pre-harvest interval and withholding period:
Pre-harvest interval - time from last application to harvest of the crop:
- Not applicable.
Withholding period - time from application until people and animals can enter the treated area:
- Not applicable.
Biofungicide Biocontrol T34 - preparation of spray liquid:
The aqueous suspension is applied by spraying, dipping, drip irrigation or mixing with the growing medium. Before use, clean the application equipment thoroughly to avoid residues of previous products, including plant protection products. To prepare the spray liquid, first mix the product with a small amount of water (e.g. 1 litre), then stir thoroughly to obtain a homogeneous suspension, then dilute to the final concentration. When applying via irrigation system, always apply before the penultimate irrigation of the day to minimise leaching from the growing medium. Use immediately after opening.
Biocontrol T34 - application recommendations:
- For optimal effect, the product should be applied multiple times in the crop starting from the propagation phase, according to label recommendations.
- Apply at recommended intervals to maintain the fungal population in the growing medium, especially when replanting. If the growing medium has undergone other treatments such as sterilisation, fumigation, solarisation or biofumigation, observe the recommended interval between these treatments and product application.
- The product should not be mixed with other products, including plant protection products or liquid fertilisers. The effect of other plant protection products applied before or after this product on its efficacy has not been fully established. Some products, especially fungicides, may negatively affect its efficacy.
- Safety has been tested on a limited number of carnation (Dianthus spp.) varieties. Although damage to other varieties is unlikely when used correctly, it is recommended to test on a small number of plants of a new variety before large-scale use.
- The reduction of fusarium wilt on carnations has been demonstrated on various growing media including peat, coconut fibre and mineral wool. Before large-scale use on unusual growing media or first use of a different type of medium than peat, mineral wool, or fibre, test the product. Due to possible phytotoxic symptoms on some crop varieties or when growing plants on unusual or different types of growing media, perform a trial application to check for damage or consult an advisor or the authorisation holder's representative before large-scale use.
- Apply only under "full containment" conditions provided by greenhouse construction, including upper and side barriers below ground level, which are present and maintained for many years. Take precautions to prevent access by birds, mammals and bees to the treated crop. To minimise air contamination, close ventilation openings, doors and other openings during and after application until the spray liquid has completely dried on plant or soil surfaces.
Warning! Use plant protection products safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
