Description
ROAD-GRADE MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE HEXAHYDRATE
This compound is the most effective alternative to traditional road salt. This is partly due to the negative effects that road salt has had on the environment. Magnesium chloride, on the other hand, does not cause such negative effects; quite the opposite.
What is the main use of magnesium chloride?
Magnesium chloride is primarily used on icy and snow-covered road surfaces. This is necessary because slippery roads inevitably lead to collisions as well as more serious accidents.
How does magnesium chloride work?
Magnesium chloride is a hygroscopic compound. This means it absorbs moisture. It is precisely during the absorption of moisture that magnesium chloride generates heat, which quickly melts the snow and ice settled on the road. It is applied in proportions ranging from about 300 grams to 2 kilograms per 10 square metres.
What advantage does magnesium chloride have over traditional road salt?
Above all, using magnesium chloride is more cost-effective. This is partly because to de-ice the same surface using traditional road salt, the salt consumption will be ten times greater than that of magnesium chloride. The cost-effectiveness of using this agent is also influenced by the ease of transportation, which simplifies its handling. Magnesium chloride also works at temperatures as low as -50°C.
This distinguishes it from road salt, whose effectiveness diminishes when the temperature is just a few degrees below zero. Among the non-economic benefits of using magnesium chloride is the fact that this compound does not harm:
- roadside plants
- animals
- humans
- vehicles travelling on the road
- it also does not degrade the surface on which it is used.
Technical data:
- hygroscopic (absorbs moisture),
- melts snow and ice,
- effective at temperatures down to -50°C,
- harmless to roadside plants, animals, and humans,
