Description
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DKC 3402 MAIZE VARIETY:
DKC 3402 is a mid-early hybrid (FAO Z240), which guarantees reliability in maize cultivation for grain and CCM. The variety, registered in the EU in 2021 and bred by Bayer, is distinguished by a very high and stable yield potential and exceptionally fast maturity. Key to high profit are strong dry down (rapid moisture loss) and dent grain type, which results in low moisture content of the harvested yield. Plants of medium-low height have a strong and well-developed root system, which combined with the HT1 resistance gene (against yellow leaf blight) ensures exceptional health and high drought resistance, guaranteeing higher yields even under dry conditions.
Advantages of choosing DKC 3402 maize seeds:
- Low moisture and profit: Rapid flowering, maturity and strong dry down ensure low drying costs and high profit per hectare.
- High drought resistance: A strong root system provides yield stability and higher performance in dry conditions.
- Genetic health protection: The HT1 gene protects against specific races of the pathogen causing yellow leaf blight, ensuring the health of entire plants and grain.
- Yield flexibility: Even flex-type ears compensate for differences in plant density, maximising potential in variable conditions.
- Stand stability: Medium-low plants with low-set ears and high lodging resistance facilitate harvest.

AGRONOMIC PRACTICES AND CULTIVATION RECOMMENDATIONS:
Agronomic profile:
DKC 3402 is a variety characterised by a medium-low habit, which combined with very low placement of even ears and lodging resistance, ensures a stable and easy-to-harvest stand. The well-developed root system allows deeper uptake of water and nutrients, which is key to its high drought tolerance. Rapid flowering and maturity accelerate the harvest process and emptying of storage.
Sowing rate and soil requirements:
The variety is very flexible in terms of soil requirements and will perform well on most soil types, including lighter sites, provided there is good subsoil. Due to the flex ear type and yield stability, the recommended plant density is moderate and depends on site potential (plants per hectare at harvest):
| Site | Grain/CCM [plants/ha] |
|---|---|
| Weaker | 75,000 - 78,000 |
| Medium | 78,000 - 82,000 |
| Good | 82,000 - 85,000 |
