SUBSTRAL Self-Thickening Sports Grass
Self-thickening sports grass is an ideal product for thickening and regenerating lawns. Thanks to a unique formula that allows the grass to spread through rhizomes, it creates a dense and durable turf, perfect for large areas. These seeds, produced by the renowned SUBSTRAL brand,
perform excellently under intensive use conditions, such as sports fields or golf courses.
The product is extremely easy to use – a single sowing is enough, and the grass self-regenerates, self-thickens, and covers bare spots. It is resistant to trampling and low temperatures, germinates quickly, and its intense green colour and disease resistance make it the choice of professionals.
How to Use the Grass
Lawn thickening: Seed dosing depends on the turf condition, usually between 5 and 10 g/m2. For optimal results, 20 g/m2 is recommended.
Establishing a new lawn: The standard dose is 20-30 g/m2. To achieve the best results, 30 g/m2 of seeds is recommended.
Steps for Proper Grass Sowing:
Preparing the growing medium – Remove all weeds, stones, and other debris. Then loosen and level the soil.
Applying fertiliser – Spread an appropriate fertiliser that provides the nutrients necessary for grass growth.
Spreading seeds – Evenly distribute the seeds over the prepared area, using a seed spreader or by hand.
Soil compaction – Use a garden roller to gently press the seeds into the soil, which helps seed-to-soil contact and increases germination chances.
Watering – Immediately after sowing, water the area thoroughly to ensure the seeds have adequate moisture for germination.
Helpful Tips:
The best results are achieved with a growing medium pH of 5.5 – 6.5.
The ideal time for overseeding is late spring and early autumn.
Seeds germinate better at an air temperature of at least 6 degrees.
Areas after construction or demolition may be alkaline, so they should be acidified.
How Long Does It Take for the Grass to Germinate?
Compared to most grasses available on the market, SUBSTRAL self-thickening grass can germinate at temperatures 2-4°C lower than standard varieties and emerges significantly faster – within 7 days, whereas other grasses usually emerge after about 14 days. This allows seeds to be sown earlier and in less favourable weather conditions. It enables you to enjoy a beautiful lawn from early spring, shortly after sowing.
