Description

Calcium chloride

Calcium chloride is an inorganic chemical compound distinguished by its strong tendency to absorb moisture.

It is used in:

  • the chemical industry,
  • road maintenance,
  • construction,
  • coal, gas and oil mining,
  • agriculture,
  • horticulture.

Use of calcium chloride in winter road maintenance.

Calcium chloride (CaCl2) is more efficient and effective than road salt. It effectively removes ice from roads, pavements, freezing rain and snow. Road salt works down to -6°C, whereas calcium chloride effectively removes snow and ice even down to -40°C. The consumption of calcium chloride is 10 times lower than that of road salt. The effect of calcium chloride lasts up to 72 hours.

Use of calcium chloride in summer road maintenance.

Calcium chloride used in summer road surface maintenance effectively eliminates dust and improves safety. Calcium chloride limits the formation of potholes and ruts, and consequently reduces the frequency of repair works. Its regular use also reduces labour and equipment costs, and additionally lowers expenses on materials used for road filling and maintenance. It is also easy to prepare and apply.

Use of calcium chloride in agriculture and horticulture?

It is a source of readily absorbable calcium (Ca) for fruits and vegetables. It protects fruits and vegetables against physiological disorders and fungal diseases. It stimulates fruit growth, delays their ripening and storage ability, and also increases the resistance of fruits to cracking.

Use of calcium chloride in the chemical industry

Calcium chloride is used for drying gases and liquids in chemical syntheses. It is also used as an additive to plastics or as a component in the production of calcium salts. Besides its absorbency, this agent has another great advantage: it regulates pH.

Calcium chloride in construction:

Calcium chloride in construction is mainly used as an additive to mortars and concretes. It accelerates setting and allows concreting at temperatures below 0°C.

Calcium chloride in water treatment:

Calcium chloride is used as an auxiliary agent in drainage and phosphate neutralisation in sewage treatment plants.
